^I don't know how the sensor works but the train might not have been able to stop in time. I guess this is another opportunity to point out that there is an emergency stop button on the platform by the map/telephone, not that it would have helped in this situation.

Dear Emma, would you sing this same tune, if someone you loved and cherished, met with these same unfortunate circumstances; see above the photo of the Taiwain stations security. accidents can be prevented; is the price to much to save even one person, I knew this man since birth, he was well loved, a generous man who made himself available to help and encourage many lost souls; it will never be known how much more he could have achieved, his mission in life was to love all and be availble to listen to their story, share their pain and encourage them to be the best they can be, no matter the gender, race, or demographic, in his short life he saved many from their own despair; his motto " All you need is love.."
btw luv, your points are better understood without profanity, swearing will not make anyone agree with your point of view; we are simply sharing ideas in this forum, we may agree or disagree with each other; at the least we may learn something from each other

A few years ago, the TTC (Toronto Transit Commission) was ordered to release suicide statistics under their Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act [sidenote: Vancouver appears to have a similar act, maybe we can compel Translink to release their own stats].

The report by the privacy commissioner is here: http://www.ipc.on.ca/images/Findings/MO-2466.pdf

From my brief skim, the literature used by the TTC to support a suicide media embargo is based on very dated research. More recent recommendations seem to point out that careful reporting of suicide can actually decrease its rate of occurrence.

    Some good quotes:
In this day and age, I feel that the media should be reporting suicides (with care and under strict guidelines). Whether or not the media reports it, people do find out when it happens due to Twitter, Facebook and discussion forums; this is arguably worse due to the number of rumours that get passed around.

Someone jumped and fell to their death at Crystal Mall about 2 weeks ago and pictures were shared online within hours. I've disabled the hyperlink because the picture is rather graphic but you can copy and paste it into your address bar if you want to see. http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/252629_1905311683761_1570856787_2440869_6212167_n. jpg

In 2008, pictures were shared of a suicide (jumper) at Aberdeen Centre in Richmond. http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a92/jackyhung1234/omg.jpg

Frankly, society's perception of suicide in its current state is filled with misconceptions. These stigmas, I think, can be partially attributed to the lack of suicide coverage. Lack of coverage means that the impact of suicide education is diminished.

^All of the above, I suppose. I remember writing an email to a local MP about CD levies or downloading (something like that) back in highschool and all I got in response was a generic letter that didn't answer any of the questions that I posed .

Try Translink first, let's see what kind of response they give you. Maybe ask them to release some statistics like the TTC did.

Does anyone have a copy of these pictures? The first one no longer works.
