    Updates
    • The $40/$30 promotions are supposed to end Nov. 30 Dec. 24 ??? (they keep extending it, so I'm not even going to bother putting an end date).
    • Some people are saying that corporate stores don't charge for SIM cards.

Exciting times for Canada's mobile industry :), I wouldn't sign a contract from the big players until we see how Wind and Mobilicity pan out.

I might switch to Mobilicity from Wind. Awesome their phones uses the same AWS bands as Wind, so I can use my unlocked Samsung Galaxy S. I'm pretty satisfied with Wind. Paying only $7.50 per month, until January. No dropped calls ever.

Launch has been delayed. Supposedly, they're planning for November 23 but a CSR has hinted next week but right now it's all rumours. Either way, no $100 phone credit and no Friends & Family deal unless they bring it back for the launch :(.

Which areas do you use Wind in? I still hear stories about horrible reception, particularly indoors. I'm sure it also depends on the phone though so I'm interested in hearing how good reception is for the Samsung. All of the dropped calls could be from people using the Huawei phones, which aren't so good.

I live in East Vancouver. Never had any problems. Have no reception at Granville Station and Pacific Centre. No big deal for me. I'm a very light user. Froyo 2.2 rolling out next week for the Galaxy S. I cannot wait.

Mobilicity launched on Thursday. I stopped by the Broadway and Cambie location and picked up a flyer. The Grand Opening Special is from Nov 18-30, the packages are the same as the Friends & Family ones that I posted earlier, but the cost is $5 higher.

Initial reception reports from other people are that sound quality is better than Wind but reception is spotty in some areas.

when I was heading home from school at commercial dr station, I saw they have a stand there. I'm thinking of switching to over from wind. My 6 month $7.50/month promotion will end next month and default to $15/month. My $50/month fitness world contract ended this month. I can cancel that and get a data plan.

    Wind data plan + $15 voice plan = $35/month.
Mobilicity data plan + $25 voice plan = $35/month, but I get unlimited talk, text, and data while wind is only 100 mins, 50 text, and 500MB/month.

One thing holding me back from switching is some people at a mobilicity forum said their data plan have slow speed.

I won the free phone + 6 month service contest. Data is kind of slow but I haven't used Wind to make a valid comparison. I heard the Samsung Galaxy has issues with Mobilicity, so it might be better to switch after they work out all the kinks.

Hi, Can anyone please write a review of how mobilicity has worked for him/her during the last 3-4 days e.g how was the call quality, data quality and speed and if someone has ported from a different carrier, then how was that process, easy or slow>?

Data is super slow everywhere. Call quality is not as good as POTS (landline) but decent, I can't really compare it to any other carriers though. I just know that it's way better than pre-merger Fido.

Taking the 41 bus westward, the phone loses reception (changes from Mobilicity to CDN Roaming) a bit past Dunbar until after the traffic circle at UBC. On campus, there was reception around the SUB, Chemistry Building, Ladha Science Center, Irving K. Barber. Signal cut out going from Irving to Buchanan, but strangely there was reception around the Chan Centre. It cuts off again when you near AnSo (Anthropology and Sociology building). These are just the areas that I was around though, not sure how it would work elsewhere at UBC. Heading back on the 41 eastbound, no reception from the roundabout until just before Carnarvon Street. This was on a Nokia 5230.

Don't know how CDN Roaming works, I tried sending a text while roaming and it went through but it's not supposed to work unless you prepaid money.

Actually Mobilicity is paying for all roaming and extra charges as they set up more towers for the next few months.. You will never get a surprise charge on your contract so you dont have to worry about long distance, sms, mms, or any other charges..

I signed up with them a few days ago, and while ther is a few droped calls, the quality isnt as good as BELL or TELUS but so what? For 40 dollars a month its a great deal.. Besides even if it drops from Mobilicity to EDGE or CND ROAMING its still free.. Mobilcity picks up the tab on anything, as long as you dont charge anything to your Mobilicity Wallet Account, all your transcations are paid for by Mobilcity.. Its a great deal, so abuse it while you can!

^Good to know. Anyone else having trouble with GPS not working on any map applications (Nokia Ovi and Google)?

Economy's tough. Saving money is important. I'm a student. Wind and Mobilicity are helping so many people. The big 3 been stealing our money for way too long. Wind and Mobilicity actually don't offer cheap prices, they offer normal prices. The price what people should pay for.

Got the $40 plan. It's been working fine so far for me. I went to the store at 152 st and 72 ave in Surrey (Chimney Hill I think).

GPS finally started working for me. An update for Mobilicity reception at UBC, it seems that inside lecture halls and buildings it tends to switch to CDN Roaming. Data seems a bit faster now, no dropped calls so far and texts are sent pretty quickly.

I live at 152 nd street and 72nd ave and there is a Chevron gas station and a new 5 or so store "strip" there, but nothing else. Is that where you are referring to or is it somewhere else?

I'm trying to figure out if the unlimited use area will grow/increase in time. I'd assume it would. Anyone have any idea on that?

Also, is Mobilicity a publicly traded stock? Which company owns Mobilicity? Just thinking of how the price of the original "City-Fido"company stock must have jumped up when Rogers bought them out. Gonna look into that. I'm interested in knowing more about Mobilicity's current share/stock price and potential future price.

    Any thoughts/insight?

Cheers! Good to know we have fair cell options!

Reception downtown works well outdoors, but spotty indoors. On Burrard Street at St. Paul's I'd lose signal every once in awhile. Same thing happened in Pacific Centre, phone only worked at H&M because it was roaming. The stretch between Burrard Skytrain and Stadium is roaming as well. At Superstore in Metrotown, it was also roaming.

Looks like Mobilicity has issues indoors, much like Fido did when they first started.

It's obvious that their reception won't be as good but bare with them! Those living in Richmond can find them at the same mall with Radisson.

I recently switched from Chatr to Mobilicity. Reception with Mobilicity is really spotty. NO service on the Canada Line from Waterfront (underground) to Marine Dr. I'm totally for cheaper, reasonable prices, but not at the expense of my children's safety or others who use cellphones for emergency use only. The last thing we want to see in the local news is a victim who was unable to call for help due to "No reception". In the meantime, my kids will be using a Rogers pre-paid until Mobilicity irons out their network.
Another thing, my data is sooooo slow. Does the GPS feature actually work ?
Does Mobilicity have a blog similar to Wind where actually employees respond?
