I honestly didn't think finding a job would be so hard. I don't know if it's just me but since graduating I've been looking for over a year, sent out hundreds of resumes and nothing :(.

Maybe job sharing? Maybe volunteering could lead to a paid job?
Got to be flexable... Part time to start sometimes... Maybe not at the pay scale you'd like....

Thank you. I would be more than happy with minimum wage but the farthest I ever get is the interview stage. Those civic jobs would be a dream but I am underqualified. If retail won't even hire me, then I don't think I would have any luck. I feel like it shouldn't be this hard! Is it time to pack up and leave this beautiful city?

What about places that YOU frequent? Which stores do you go to? Are they hiring? Where do you like to eat/drink? Are they hiring?

Which malls do you like to go to? There are probably dozens of places hiring in each mall!

Vancouver is one of the toughest places to find work, that's the reality, so you are not alone. Everybody wants to live here but there's not enough economic activity to support a lot of industries and jobs.

Your best chance would be to do a professional degree or something in healthcare. BCIT has a few lab and imaging tech programs. Many local institutions have nursing programs.

It sounds like you're having trouble with even entry level jobs, what experience do you have? What education do you have? Big difference between high school and post-secondary educated. There are tons of people with university degrees (arts, science) working barely above minimum wage jobs, so it'd be very difficult to compete if you only have a Dogwood Diploma unless it's trades or manual labour work.

If you're getting stuck at the interview stage, practice with a friend and have them critique you. Go to WorkBC and get advice, see your university or high school career counsellor, etc. If you're not getting many interviews in the first place, have someone check over your resume. Many people leave out important experiences and job skills because they don't think it's relevant. Others have terrible spelling and grammar. Both are easy fixes.

You could also try those agencies that provide daily jobs, usually in construction.

Air Canada has a website... On that website is a Careers page.... If you go into the Careers page, there are 54 opportunities across Canada... 2 of which are "entry level" jobs in Vancouver....

STATION ATTENDANT: $11.02 AN HOUR, or CABIN SERVICE & CLEANING ATTENDANT: $10.80 AN HOUR...
