New "Luxury" Bus Service Langley-Downtown, $395-495 mth!

www.pacificcommuter.com is a brand new service operating between Langley/Cloverdale & Downtown Vancouver...
$495 a month, unless you sign up for a whole year and then only pay $395 a month...

12 riders on the 1st day, July 3...

 

$495 a month, assuming 23 work days in a month = $21 a day - little too expensive

1 year = 365 days, 52 weekends=104 days, total work days= 365 - 104 = 261 work days

$4740 a year ($395 x 12) for 261 work days = $18 a day - still a little expensive

Translink 3 zone bus pass - Langley to Vancouver for $151 a month, still a better deal and valid for multiple travel and weekends too.

Luxury Bus Service=$495
Translink = $151

Total Savings= $495-$151 = $344

Looks like service 502/Skytrain is a better deal.

 

I took a look at the website and am impress the luxury bus has a nice clean washroom and kitchenette facilities. Maybe it is worthwhile paying that few extra bucks...

 

I saw a news report on this the other day. They're offering free trials for now, hence the number of riders? I don't think I would be able to justify the price because the commute isn't that long. If it was 2 hours or more then I would consider it. The biggest advantage is that you can get stuff done (read, work related items, etc.) on the bus.

The cost is comparable to a car. The downside is that you are restricted in when you leave home/work because of set bus schedules.

 

$21 is a pretty reasonable price to drag your ass down town in comfort. That amount can easily be spent on gas and parking. This service does not cater to the minion shleps anyhow. These people don't got no 11.65 an hour job at walmart. They have good salaries and the company pays for the transit anyhow. You can keep your mass transit for 151 a month along with Sweating unwashed pigs, dirtbags with loud headphones and bs waiting in shit weather.

 

You can't compare this new service to TransLink. For one: TransLink does NOT offer direct- transfer free service between Langley & Downtown. They "funnel" everyone onto SkyTrain...

This new service takes you all the way to downtown on the bus you boarded out in Langley...

As for price comparisons with a car/vehicle, heck you could spend $400 a month just on gas! not to mention insurance, wear and tear on the vehicle, routine maintenance, parking, etc...

I'm not saying this new service is a deal, but it's not out of line ither, with what it costs to run your own vehicle between Langley & downtown....

That's true. There is no comparison. Like I said, I'm impressed with that toilet bowl in that bus. The downside of this bus is, if I read the schedule correct, the bus runs once in the morning and once in the evening. If you miss the bus, that's it. It can still be considered if there are several trips in the morning but there is only one trip. I rather spend $495 hitching a ride from someone in the neighbourhood, at least I can tell my ride to wait if I'm running late etc.

That's true again, most people who work downtown prefer to take the skytrain because the gas/parking is so expensive. That's why the skytrain is so packed during rush hour.
